Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals

Both sides have undergone changes since their last clash almost three years ago  Ravindra Jadeja, who took four wickets in CSK’s tight victory that day, is not playing a major role with the ball this season. Shane Watson, on whom Royals’ success was largely built in the first eight years, has now swapped teams with the Jaipur-based outfit moving on to Ben Stokes, who comes in with a similar profile to that of the Australian allrounder in his prime. Royals themselves have shed the tag of being stringent spenders in the auction post their comeback, making Stokes and Jaydev Unadkat the two costliest players this time.

Royals have had a mixed start to the tournament so far, winning two and losing two, their inconsistency has coincided with the big guns misfiring so far. Stokes and Unadkat are yet to stamp their authority on the tournament whereas D’Arcy Short has found it tough to come to grips with spin despite coming into the IPL on the back of some fantastic form in the format. Sanju Samson has stood out from the rest whereas skipper Ajinkya Rahane has gotten off to good starts without making them count. Royals will be hoping that their bowling attack, which has a predominantly Indian make-up, can deliver against a side that’s been nothing short of being unpredictable.

CSK have been immensely entertaining in all three of their games so far, pulling off heists in the first two with Dhoni almost making it three out of three with his career-best IPL knock. The biggest talking point though is their ‘new home’. 1000 fans from Chennai are set to descend in Pune to give CSK a much-needed spark after their games were moved out of Chepauk. But it’s a team that has always found support no matter where they are playing. The thinktank will be more concerned about the nature of the surface that they will be playing on after stocking their side with spinners in order to take advantage of the Chennai track.

RR’s bowling has been good, but their star player in Ben Stokes and Dhawal Kulkarni are yet to prove themselves with the bowl.
