Kings XI Punjab will play their final home match of VIVO IPL 2018 when they host Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 48.
A fortnight into the season, Kings XI Punjab were placed on top of the table with five wins from six matches. However, since then, their fortunes have headed southwards; KXIP have posted only one win in their next five matches, and hence find themselves locked in a survival race. In their most recent outing, KXIP were blown away by the Kolkata Knight Riders, who posted 245-6 – the highest total of the season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are part of the survival race too; the Virat Kohli-led side are currently placed seventh in the eight-team table, and come into this match at the back of a resounding win over the Delhi Daredevils on Saturday night. Virat Kohli’s team has not won two consecutive matches this season, and this is the time for them to set right that trend; RCB cannot afford one more loss, and they need to win this to stay in contention for a playoff spot. In the context of the tournament, RCB have played the perfect match – or had the complete performance – only once in the tournament; it is now time to get all departments firing in unison.
When: May 14, 08:00 PM IST
Venue: Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore
The wicket at the Holkar stadium usually favours the batsmen. With even bounce and short boundaries coming into play, batsmen tend to rule the roost. On expected lines, Sehwag played with sparkle and fizz, and composed that record-breaking double ton against the West Indies in 2011. Even if we go further back in time to 2006, India chased down a target a 289 set by England with seven wickets to spare.

Stats that matter
- Chris Gayle is 42 runs short of becoming the seventh player to score 4000 runs in the IPL
- Rahul hasn’t dominated against spin (average 27.9) the way he has against pace (average 171). Seven of his nine dismissals this season are against spin
- Kohli, who is 34 runs away from registering 500 runs in an IPL season for the fifth time, has never been dismissed by Ashwin, Tye or Mohit Sharma in the IPL
- With at least three left-handers in the fray to grab the opening slot, Mujeeb’s dot percentage of 55.2 and economy rate of 5.3 against left-handers this season could help keep a tight leash on the RCB openers
- Ashwin has bowled 192 of his 256 balls this season during the middle overs. In that phase, he has an economy rate of 7.7, has conceded a boundary every eight balls, and has taken four of his six wickets.
